70's Sewing Adventure

I previously have stated I'm not the biggest fan of 70's style for me. Other people can pull it off brilliantly but only certain things work for me. I'm hoping this dress does!

One can never have too many dresses, in my opinion. A friend of mine was doing spring cleaning a couple of months ago and her mom came across some old patterns. And they thought of me! Thanks, especially to Meghan! This is my first venture into vintage patterns. As in the real ones that use the measurements from that time period.
This one is from the 70's, specifically McCall's 3562 from 1973. I'm making style A but with the B length. It's almost finished, just hand sewing left to do. As the pattern is too big for me, I have to do some alterations and I've never had to do that before. Confusion! This pattern is just full of firsts! I don't think the dress will end up looking too 70's and that's fine. Could be the fabric I chose, those flowers are so cute and tiny, couldn't pass it up!

Shopping Euphoria

Is this what you feel like when shopping? You said yes, of course. Oh, on sale days mostly, completely right you are! Randomly stumbled on this picture and I thought this is it! This is how a good shopping day feels and should feel when you've gotten exactly what you wanted/needed (yes, you did need that dress and those shoes even though you have one in your closet already) for the best deals ever! Let's face it, we are not all millionaires that can spend money on $1500 shoes. And also why would we? I love shoes, clothes, etc. but why not express myself through my style on pieces that are affordable or that I can make myself? I won't break the bank to shop but when I score great deals I'd love to strike those poses to show my success!

PS. This was supposed to be posted yesterday and blogger was down! Sorry!

Under the Sea Adventures

The long awaited Little Mermaid Ride at California Adventures, Disneyland is open! I was extremely lucky to get to ride it before it officially opened!

What is this pose? I'm a little kid apparently.

Not a very good picture but this is one of the cranes holding back the weeping willow curtain. Because of that part in the movie I've always loved weeping willow trees.

Shirt, Jeans, Flats, Necklace: American Eagle
Ring & Bracelet: H&M
Flower Headband: Self made

So I know this post is a couple weeks late in coming, but I finally got around to it. I was so excited to go on the ride and spend time at Disney I felt like going casual and comfortable with a little bit of an under the sea twist, hence the blue and seashell necklace.
The ride was so much fun! The intricate details, that only Disney makes sure to add in, left me in awe. From the seashells embedded in the floor to seaweed inspired light fixtures there is so much to look at in line alone. Once you get to the ride it is a submersion under water to the musical and colorful world of Ariel. It takes the classic rides like Pinocchio, Peter Pan, and Snow White to the next level with the expressive eyes and movement of the characters. I loved it and made sure to ride it several times that day!
If you have a chance go check it out!

True Blood Makeup

Before we get to the fashion let's talk makeup.
Tarte is releasing True Blood inspired products. Brilliant!

Pictures from Sephora.

Although I don't really need new makeup I might eventually get these. The colors look fantastic (I'll have to see in person in the store I suppose). But why not have some True Blood makeup? For the inner vamp within. Maybe I'll get this one. The colors look awesome but I don't know if it's just because it says True Blood. You can tell I like the show right? Sometimes I'm just so subtle about these things! The top picture of the cheek stain for some reason makes me want to eat it. What?!? It's the color and sort of see through bubbles in it I think. But mostly I'm just hungry I think.

Muppet Happiness

The Muppets make me happy! So the new Muppet movie trailer must be shared!
I'm beyond excited to see this in November!! For so many reasons some of which I can't share yet. I'm also happy that a Muppet movie is going to come out in theaters since the for the other ones I wasn't born yet.
I promise I'll get back to the fashion posts tomorrow. Haven't had chances to take pictures of outfits that much. Must work on that. But I'll leave you with some more Muppets! Goodness I love them!

I just got distracted and watched a bunch of Muppet clips on YouTube. Enjoy!

Hearty Egg Adventures

Lunch time! Though I suppose this can be eaten at any meal. Let's be honest, eggs are good at any time of day. What's that you say? High cholesterol? Well, no one said eat it every single meal. Eggs are good for you! No, not just the egg whites but the whole thing. I say that but I do enjoy my egg whites...sometimes.

Poached Egg Half-Sandwich
Ingredients:
2 eggs
Tomato
Parsley or Coriander
English Muffin
Lemon Pepper or Regular Pepper and Salt

Directions:
1. Toast the English Muffin.
2. Cut tomatoes and your choice of parsley or coriander.
3.  Poach the eggs. I'm still mastering the art of poaching but due to watching the movie Julie and Julia, I looked up Julia Child's method of poaching. It seems to work the best, after all it is Julia Child.
4. Put it all together and garnish with pepper and salt.

I think alfalfa sprouts or lettuce would work as well as coriander and such, I didn't have any. Lemon or other sauces would add new flavors but for this meal I wanted it to be quick and filling while getting in bit of different food groups. I love poached eggs, especially with hollandaise sauce, but mostly because it's so healthy! No butter or oil or anything like that needed to cook it. I need a better name for this dish. Any suggestions?

Test Pilot

Test Pilot, starring Clark Gable, Myrna Loy, and Spencer Tracy...
Saw this movie a bit ago and really enjoyed it. Follows the story of a test pilot who lives his life with a devil-may-care-attitude and his wife and best friend who love him.  They deal with the dangers of test pilot's lives. The film is filled with humor while examining acceptance of one's loved ones and the desire to change for your loved ones.
When it comes to the fashion, I will admit I love the aviation stuff and want a leather jacket like that. Myrna Loy's character isn't one to have an elaborately rich wardrobe but her outfits are so cute with all the matchy-matchy. Yes, I love matchy-matchy. I can't help it.

Moody Weather Adventures

Shirt: Forever 21
Shorts: H&M
Belt: Nordstrom
Shoes: American Eagle

The weather has been a bit confusing and I'm loving it. We fondly (sarcasm of course) refer to this as June gloom here in California. While most other years I would be asking where's the sun? This year I'm embracing the cool and cloudy weather. Kind of like I'm willing my body to soak it in since very soon it will be beyond hot. But this weather doesn't make dressing easy since the weather fluctuates from cold to hot and back to cold very quickly. I was running errands and didn't want layers to carry so half sleeves are super convenient.
Also had fun with this tied hair side pony tail. By tied, I mean tied, literally in knots; 2 to be exact. With such thick and long hair the knots give the illusion of shorter hair, fun!

Striking Ballet

These brilliant shots are from a Cade Martin. So talented! They are from a commemorative book called Wonderland, which can be seen here. Martin has so beautifully captured the strength of movement and the grace of expression and storytelling of these dancers.

The Continental Adventures

Oh dear, readers! It's been a week of no posts. I've been rather busy with projects (the outdoors kind where I end up with bruises and injuries). But I did manage to go out with my sister for a quick night of rock music.

Tunic: Forever 21
Leggings: H&M
Bracelets: Forever 21
Boots: Target

I was actually super excited about my hair. It was a new style I hadn't tried before, a looser ballerina bun. Loved it! With all the black and white I didn't want to go with black shoes so out came the tan ones. Lately I've been feeling like no jewelry, not sure why. Who says you always have to wear a necklace? I did compromise by throwing on a bunch of bracelets.

Darth Vader Loves Disneyland

One more video to leave you with for the weekend! Star Tours yay! This video made my night! Have a great weekend everyone!

Too Much to Do...

and too little time. But I thought I'd share a song I'm a bit obsessed with right now.
So beautiful. Linkin Park, enough said.

Star Tours Adventures

Last week I got to preview the new Star Tours ride at Disneyland before it officially opens! Beyond exciting. That would be I why I have my excited face in half these pictures. I couldn't stop myself.

 So shiny!

 Starport views
 "Rigorous" baggage checks

Shirt, Necklace & Jeans: American Eagle
Vest: Gift
Shoes: Jessica Simpson

My day was all about comfort for doing a lot of walking that and the fact that it was cold. To be honest, I really wasn't concerned about the outfit I just wanted to get there. I almost wore my Star Wars shirt but that's overkill.
The ride, of course, was brilliant and astounding! There are so many different combinations for adventures one can have once in the Starspeeder 1000. Not to mention it is 3D, as in good 3D not cheapy gimmicks that aren't realistic. The effects (including the underwater parts that felt so lifelike), the 3D, the characters...oh my goodness! I can't even put it into words; also I don't want to spoil it for everyone. We went on it several times and we never had a repeating adventure. It's like being in Star Wars. My nerd side was very satisfied. Today I'm off to preview the new Little Mermaid Ride. But you'll have to wait until next week for that one...
