Masquerade Halloween Adventure

Hair-Curled in tight spirals. Take one section at the top of the head and put it into a tiny bun. Tease the rest of the hair on top then smooth the teased hair over the mini-bun (conveniently covering it). Gather the rest of the hair into one twist and let the rest hang loosely. Pin. Then re-curl any droopy ones.

Happy Halloween! Advantage of celebrating the weekend before Halloween means I have pictures for you on the day. Also I don't have to worry about partying the night before work (as tomorrow I have to be up by 4:30 in the morning this is an extremely good thing).
I went as a nearly headless masquerader. Why nearly headless? Well, one cannot actually take off their head and still live...hence, nearly headless. While I loved the whole costume I was immensely relieved the dress did what I wanted. It's always a gamble for me when I sew something. It was lovely to have such a regal look (complete with billowing skirts when I walked) and then make it a bit darker than normal. Of course I had help getting into the dress. Thanks Bestest Friend! One of the many perks of partying with your best friend. A zombie one at that! To keep up from last year here is one of us. I was missing the other Bestie though... still a fun Halloween night!

Day at the Races Adventure

Dress & Shoes-American Eagle

These pictures somehow got lost in the shuffle. A little bit ago I went to opening weekend of the races with my sister. I love being around the horses. I, however, do not understand the betting part entirely. I sat there googling what the numbers meant and while informing my sister what I was learning, received many strange looks from the guys around me. They obviously knew all about the process. No, I didn't win. But I was so close! Rather, my horse was so close!
Thoughts for dressing for the races. Classy and a hat. Following that, this outfit came out of my closet. There were ladies with hats but they were in the nicer section. So I classed up the regular section. One day...and to prepare for that day I tried on an extremely large, fun, pretty, and expensive hat. (See below)

Thanks for reading!

Halloween Music Monday

I have already indulged my Halloween spirit this weekend. Full costume, mask, death makeup, blood...lovely. If you can't wait for Halloween to see there will be previews on Twitter or on Instagram at stylishadventures22. And now for some Halloween themed music to set the mood for this week.

Polka Dot Adventure

Dress & Shoes-LC by Lauren Conrad, Kohl's
Purse, Ring, Bracelet, Necklace-H&M
Nails-Mermaid's Tears by OPI and White NYC polka dots
Hair-Curled then pulled up into an upside down ponytail

I ventured into the "super tall and narrow wedge shoes" territory and was mostly successful. Avoided all spills until later at work when going back to change out of the shoes, I took a spill. In future days you might catch a glimpse of my handiwork on my knees. But at least at the wedding I wore this outfit to there were no disastrous falls.
Instead there was polka dots, sheer necklines, and pops of color. I could have played it safe with a black purse or cream I suppose. But this clutch seemed to call out to me before running out the door and I said why not? Cute and unexpected.

Little Horses Adventure

Belt, Purse, Ring-H&M
Necklace & Bracelet-Forever 21
Hair-Two braids at the crown, gathered in the center and wavy hair

Found new boots to obsess over this season...and next. So that means you will see a lot of these I bet. I've worn this outfit a couple of times before I could finally take pictures. And did I mind? No. Any excuse for my favorite horse dress (my only one for now) and the boots. And then there is the squirrel necklace. My thought process was this: hmmm I'm wearing horses so adding another animal to the mix is not too much. Animal motifs and I are fast friends. They sometimes can exert a control over my judgement...mostly because I don't fight it...rather, indulge it.

Oktoberfest Adventure

Costume-Upland Costume Company (Rented)

This last weekend I embraced the German tradition of Oktoberfest. My sister and I helped out at an Oktoberfest event at our church. Besides loving my full skirt as I rushed about serving I laughed and danced along with everyone enjoying their German food and drink. All the profits went to charity, wonderful!
I learned that apparently being a costumer (for me) means I don't do things half way. Couldn't bring myself to do the pretend Halloween versions. Took my sister and off we went to try on many dresses at Upland Costume. Once we picked our dresses I went on to research shoes, makeup, and hair. Yes, I watched several YouTube videos, in German. Also learned that tying the apron has meaning. Tip: left side means you are single, right side you are not, etc. All the work paid off as Lauren and I got many compliments and conversations through the lovely costumes.
Extra bonus was getting to style Lauren. Doing her hair and mine left me a bit rushed (per usual didn't allot enough time for it) but it was so worth it! Isn't she so cute?!

Halloween Costume Ideas

I love dressing up for Halloween. But I find myself always running out of time. I need to start earlier. I figured that there have to be some among my dear readers who have this same problem (the ones that don't, way to have it together!) How about being a spider web?

Dapper Adventure

Necklace-American Eagle
Shoes-Jessica Simpson

I found out there is a fantastic thing called Dapper Day at Disneyland. It's unofficial of course. But people dress up in retro styles, all kinds. The most popular were 40's and 50's (that I saw). Some really great style (and some not so much, but that's ok!) I found out about this event a little to late to put anything a little more complicated. So I went for 60's. Mod dress, a bit of volume in the hair and cat eyeliner. Conveniently, already had these.
And now, let me introduce you to one of my sisters!

Shirt-Forever 21
Shorts-American Eagle

This is Lauren. She and I threw an outfit together for her as well. Hers a little more modified "League of Their Own" movie especially with the shoes. Walking around all day one needs comfort. She says these shoes are super comfortable. I wouldn't mind trying these out eventually.

Random Opinion

I'm sure you, like me, have been to several weddings. And if you happen to not be married yet, like me,  sometimes attending those weddings you may make mental notes. I decided I'd share it.

There are loads of gorgeous wedding dresses out there. A very popular one is the strapless wedding dress. In my humble opinion the strapless wedding dress may be more hassle than it's worth. Think about how many times brides have to adjust their dresses. I have witnessed my fair share of yanking and pulling up, mini-hops, and some other methods that one might not want to do in front of everyone (and yet I've seen it done). I've helped brides with the dresses as well.
All of those brides look gorgeous and happy. It's just that wedding dresses tend to be long and heavy. No matter how well they fit with all the moving around it is bound to fall and be uncomfortable. Sometimes the dresses cause the not so flattering rolls above the top. (You know the ones I'm talking about)
Overall, I feel no to the strapless wedding dress. Just my opinion, and in case you wanted to know, it will be very rare that you will ever see me in strapless. I don't want to deal with all the fiddling around.
What do you think?

Sunset/Sunrise Adventure

Shirt, Bracelets-H&M
Shorts-American Eagle
Sports Bra-Target
Hair-Braids wrapped around my head
Nails-Green Apple Mint by Essie with Sally Hansen Crackle Polish

No no, dear readers, I didn't stay up for sunset or sunrise like the title might lead you to think. Just my shirt did. I can't decide whether my shirt depicts the sunrise or sunset. Suggestions, dear readers? The blue shorts made me think of the ocean. Sunset/sunrise over the ocean. Mission accomplished.

I'd like to say this outfit went along with a wonderful day. But it didn't. Sometimes, you discover that people and projects you work on (by you I mean me) are not...well, pleasant. When I find myself frustrated by such things/people I seem to make sure that I dress in outfits that make me happy. (I don't even think about it sometimes, just happens) Sunsets and sunrises over the ocean always make me happy. It's perfectly lovely to walk around with an outfit that represents that.

P.S. Note to self and readers let's try to remember to cut the tags off sheer materials
